Rococo Systems Linn Kiko review

It’s arrived! We knew our Linn Kiko was coming today and for some reason that made the coffee this morning here at Rococo Systems taste much better.  The anticipation and debate on what time the courier would arrive started about 07:30 and didn’t stop till the doorbell rang at just minutes before 11am. I’ve never known the staff here so eager to answer the door, so well done Kiko for staff motivation before we even get our hands on you. The Kiko comes in Linn’s new white packaging, very slick and extremely strong, as you would expect such an item to arrive.  Tape cut and flaps opened the smell of new hi-fi filled the air and there was a combined “aaahhh” heard all round. Once out the box we knew we had a winner on our hands Linn really have stepped out the zone with the Kiko.  It’s sleek, shiny and right away you start to picture all the places it could be placed round the home or office. The next surprise was the weight of the speakers, “wow” no messing here with these small but well built active speakers.  Again, they compliment the design of the Kiko perfectly.  By this point the excitement was really buzzing lots of “ooo’s, aaa’s” and head nodding going on. Just when we thought that was it for surprises we got a hold of the new K40 speaker cables, approx 2m long and silver.  The weight of these cables dictates the quality and becomes another exciting part of the Linn Kiko set up. We eventually stopped drooling long enough to set the Kiko up, which will easily fit on a shelf and has been designed as a true lifestyle piece at home in any room and 99% of room locations.  Our Kiko is white, which gave it an even more contemporary and desirable look. Ethernet cable plugged in and power on, our first choice was Barb Jungr, Walking in Menphis…………………………………WE CAN’T BELIEVE HOW GOOD THE LINN KIKO SOUNDS!  Crisp, rich depth even at low level, turn it up though and in return your ears will be rewarded with a punchy wholesome experience that you can’t help by smile with. The Kiko may be little but it misses nothing, it’s a real contender in the marketplace.  As Linn people to the core, we knew it would be good, but we honestly didn’t expect it to be this good, it’s excellent!  Take every component above described, put it all together, which is a simple plug and play job even for the most inexperienced person and you really have something terrific. The Kiko knocks spots off similar priced, lifestyle competition on the market right now.  For too long customers have been asking for such a product from Linn and now it’s arrived, they won’t be disappointed. The price point of £2500 now seems really keen and super value in comparison to other less impressive “lifestyle” systems.  If you’re in the market for a lifestyle system for you home, office, holiday home, boat or cabin, then giving the Linn Kiko houseroom is probably the best Audio decision you can make this year! What To Do With A Bob Dylan Vinyl & Other Records

Image by jem Do you have an old box of records sitting out in the garage? Maybe you inherited some old vinyl from your parents. Instead of letting them gather dust out in the garage, consider some of the different things you can do with them. Most people don’t know that vinyl records have been making a comeback. Independent record stores and online vendors do very well buying, selling, and trading new and old vinyl. Before you dump them to a far dark corner of your garage, consider the alternatives. Selling Old Vinyl Records Selling old vinyl records can be a great way to start a new hobby or simply make a little bit of money. There is a huge market of record collectors that will spend thousands of dollars on vintage vinyl records. Do some research on the vinyl you have. Find out if any of the artists are selling at top dollar. You never know when an old Beatles album you have collecting dust can be worth thousands. Not only can you make money but you might find yourself interested in becoming a professional collector. It can be a fun hobby to pick up especially for a music lover. Hold On To Them Another idea is to simply hold on to them. Get something like a VPI record cleaner and some plastic sleeves and properly s tore that old Bob Dylan vinyl. You may have some records that will age well, and really be worth something later. They can also be great to pass down to your own kids. Sharing music with your family can be a wonderful bonding experience. You can create memories together that they will never forget. Today’s youth are unfamiliar with records and record players. Introduce them to something really special. Do you have a music room or entertainment space in your home? They can be great decorative items, sitting on a shelf or with an old vintage record player. They can be especially wonderful in a home with other vintage items. If you or your family collects antiques they make a wonderful decorative addition. Consider taking the vinyl out and using the album covers as wall decorations. This can be a fun way to make use out of them in a game room or other gathering space. You might even be able to decorate your office using them. Don’t just stuff those old vinyls into the back of your garage, get creative with them. Eric Blair writes about lp records and vinyl record cleaners that are making a come back amonth the young people.

Linn + 2 promo is back from 1st July 2012 – 14th September 2012

Linn’s +2 promotion is back by popular demand. Add 2 extra channels of amplification for free when you buy any Linn Majik or Linn Akurate power amplifier between 1st July and 14th September 2012. Linn’s +2 means that you can get a Linn Majik 4100 for the price of a Linn Majik 2100, an Linn Akurate 4200 for the price of an Linn Akurate 2200, and so on, giving you +2 amplifier channels completely free. Alternatively, if you’re buying an amplifier to go fully Aktiv, we’ll let you choose between the extra channels you need or free Aktiv cards…whichever saves you more money. Why +2? Although one amplifier channel is enough to power a speaker, more amp channels really make it sing! Adding an extra two channels of amplification immediately allows you to bi-amp a stereo playback system to get significantly better sound instantly. Bi-amping reduces distortion and increases separation between high and low frequencies, and powers individual speaker drive units with greater efficiency and control. Linn’s +2 promo helps you to reach the number of amplification channels you need to bi-amp your system for less and hear the difference Linn power amplifiers can make to everything you listen to at home. From bi-amping to fully Aktiv Bi-amping is an easy first step along the multi-amping path (tri-amping, quad-amping) towards the audio nirvana of fully Aktiv. This is where all speaker drive units (bass, mid, tweeter etc.) have the signal tailored by Aktiv filters and are driven individually by their own amplifier channels. Aktiv playback systems benefit from improved timing and control, as well as lower distortion across the entire frequency range thanks to the elimination of inefficiency and signal-bleed within the passive crossover. Contact US….. If this all seems a bit complicated, don’t worry – give us a call and we will talk you through the options for your system. LINN +2 PROMO – TERMS & CONDITIONS FOR CUSTOMERS 1. Linn Turntables Explained

Introduced in 1972, the Sondek LP12 was Linn’s first product and helped demonstrate that the most important element in any quality music system is the source of the music itself. Launched at a time when amplifiers and loudspeakers were seen as being most critical to the performance of any system, the Sondek LP12 showed that extracting more information from the record itself was the most critical challenge. Quite simply, information lost at the source is lost forever. Since its introduction over 30 years ago the Sondek LP12 has been the turntable by which all others are judged and each component has been continuously improved to extract even more information from a vinyl record. At the heart of the Sondek LP12 is Linn’s patented, low-noise, single-point bearing. This advanced yet simple bearing design ensures the smooth motion of the turntable and eliminates noise to ensure that all you hear is the music. The high mass, perfectly balanced, belt-driven platter maintains speed stability, while the solid wood plinth, suspended sub-chassis and stable arm platform combine to provide freedom from vibration and acoustic feedback. The combination of these precision-engineered components creates a turntable with an unequalled ability to provide pitch accurate, faithful reproduction of your cherished vinyl collection. A partnering range of Linn tonearms and cartridges are available to ensure you get the maximum performance from your Sondek LP12. The Sondek LP12 is available in a choice of high-quality real wood finishes. Our standard finishes are Black Ash, American Cherry, Maple, Rosenut or Walnut and we also offer a custom service for those who want a truly bespoke finish.
