Who are Linn?
Linn Products Limited are an independent precision-engineering company specialising in top performance sound reproduction, they do not sell their products direct to the public, all Linn dealers are appointed because of their high standards of professionalism, their commitment to quality sound and having the experience to install.
Linn produce equipment to the highest possible levels of performance following a strict ethos of being as faithful to the original source material as possible. The constant pursuit of pitch accurate sound reproduction has led to Linn becoming one of the world's most respected manufactures of audio equipment.
Some things will never change. Music, song and dance are essential for human well-being and sound reproduced above a certain standard can transform the way you live. Fascination with the way things work inspired Ivor Tiefenbrun from a very young age. Born in Glasgow, he was passionate about two things – engineering and listening to music. When he couldn’t buy a hi-fi good enough to satisfy his needs he decided to make one himself.
Back in the early 70’s, the conventional industry wisdom was that sound quality was determined by good or bad speakers. The experts believed the hi-fi chain started with the speakers and worked back to the source of the music – at that time – the turntable. This understanding dominated the way the industry designed new systems.
But Ivor believed the exact opposite to be true. No speakers in the world could bring back lost music. The source of the music was the most important element. A painfully obvious idea, yet the entire industry ridiculed it. Because it pointed out that they were wrong. So Ivor ignored them. And quietly set about building a turntable.
In 1972, Linn Products was born to produce the Sondek LP12 turntable. The longest lived hi-fi product still in production anywhere in the world. The remarkable ability of the Sondek LP12 to extract more music information from records led to the understanding that retrieving and protecting the source signal carefully was what mattered most.
The Linn Sondek LP12 turntable revolutionised the hi-fi industry proving categorically that the source of the music is the most important component in the hi-fi chain. The Sondek LP12 turntable transformed the sound of any system. It was sold by comparison with competitive products, so that customers could judge the sound quality for themselves. Selling by demonstration empowered customers and changed the industry. Linn then set out to make the other components in a system as revolutionary as the first, setting new standards for performance with each new product. Today, Linn is a substantial Independent precision engineering company based in Glasgow, Scotland, focused on the design, manufacture and sale of complete music and home-theatre systems for discerning customers who seek only the best.

Why should I go Aktiv?
Going Aktiv is a simple and cost effective way to maximise the performance of your playback system. The performance improvement is so great that it is arguably more significant than upgrading to higher performance loudspeakers in passive configuration.
Almost all Linn loudspeakers can be driven actively with a simple upgrade, whereas the majority of loudspeakers from other manufacturers are passive.
Each drive unit is driven directly
When you go Aktiv each individual drive unit in the loudspeaker is powered by its own power amplifier through a mains-powered electronic Aktiv crossover. This ensures that the drive unit gets exactly the information it is meant to have, so the entire audio spectrum is covered, efficiently, seamlessly and accurately with minimum noise and distortion. This improved reproduction makes for a much more musical and therefore enjoyable experience.
In a passive system, a single amplifier powers all of the drive units in the loudspeaker and a passive crossover filter circuit divides the full range music signal into high and low frequencies, e.g. bass, mid and treble frequencies. The limitations to this type of crossover causes interference between the signal and drive units which can absorb, distort or colour the original signal, so the quality of reproduction is lower as a result, and your enjoyment is lessened.
Minimise cabling joints and connectors
In Linn Aktiv systems the amplifiers and the speakers can be mixed and matched and upgraded independently. The Aktiv crossover modules can be integrated within the amplifier, so installation is neater and cabling joints and connectors are minimised. This delivers improved performance as all additional connections have the potential to detract from overall system accuracy and performance.
Simple to install
Linn Aktiv cards can be quickly and easily installed by us. All Linn amplifiers contain advanced circuitry which can automatically sense the presence of Linn Aktiv crossover circuits.

We have a Linn service centre were we can repair and service your equipment, should your equipment need to go back to Linn we can also organise this for you.
